Melven Jay “Mel” Marten was born April 1, 1972 in Cottonwood, AZ. He is the son of Michael and Debra “Debbie” (nee Owens) Marten of Steamboat Springs, CO. He died on April 16, 2013 at his residence in the Central West End, St. Louis, MO. He is survived by his parents; his paternal grandparents: Marty and Joyce Marten, Cottonwood, AZ; one sister, Rebecca “Becky” (Cal) Johns, Ray, CO and brother, Robert “Robbie” (Tia) Marten, Ashland, OR; one niece, Samantha Marten; and one nephew, Aaron Johns. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Bert and Thelma Owens. Mel was a 1990 graduate of De Soto High School where he was a National Merit Scholar and Bright Flight Scholarship recipient. After graduating from Washington University Mel went to work for Edward Jones, St. Louis, MO as a financial analyst and then started his own company ClaroConnect.com and he was also owner of Central West End Crossfit and a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
