Monroe William Mountford was born in Graniteville on October 7, 1946 a son to Metford William and Mary Genevieve (nee Edmonds) Mountford. He died at his Sunset Hills home on June 2, 2026 at the age of 79. He was a graduate of De Soto High School and Westminster College. He served his country as a tank commander in the United States Army. Upon returning home, along with his wife Kim, Monroe owned and operated Mountford Markets in Cedar Hill and Festus. Monroe then served as the C.O.O. of Wease Distributing until his retirement. He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years Kimberlea “Kim” (nee Bennett) Mountford; their three children: Alex (Mark) Mahn, De Soto, BG John (Amanda) Mountford, Wiesbaden, Germany and Mark (Melissa) Mountford, Sunset Hills; seven grandchildren: Connor (Sydney) Mahn, Grant (Rylee) Mahn, Abigail Mountford, James Mountford, Elizabeth Mountford, Madison Mountford and Max Mountford; brother-in-law, Lance (Linda) Bennett; sisters-in-law, Lynn Bennett, Lisa (Jeff) Kerr, Kay Bennett and Ruth Bennett. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Metford Mountford whose wife Mary and daughter Meda survive, living in Manvel, TX ; his step father, James Culwell; and two brothers-in-law Jewett Bennett and Derek Bennett. Monroe was an affable person who had a great sense of humor and was a wonderful story teller. A graveside service at the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks will be held at at later date.
