George Wayne Russell was born in Ware on July 28, 1949 a son to George Washington and Inez June (nee Brakefield) Russell.  He died at his De Soto home on April 15, 2020 at the age of 70. He is survived by his wife Dorothy L. (nee Pruitt) Russell.  Wayne and Dorothy were married on September 20, 1969.  Also surviving are three children: Brian (Meloney) Russell, Chadwick, MO,  Jason (Brandy) Russell, Sioux Falls, S.D. and Chelsea (Lance) Heatwole, Independence, MO; grandchildren: Austin (Hannah), Marissa (Jordan), Miley, Ashton, Matthew, Liam; great-grandchildren: Ivy, Grayson, Caleb, and Callie; and one sister Donna Russell.  He is preceded in death by his parents and step-mother Betty (nee Gerber) Russell. Wayne served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  He had retired as a supervisor for the Missouri State Highway Department and then worked with Dean Wilson Auction Service.  He was a member of AmVets Post #48, enjoyed working on the farm, playing cards, and was of the Baptist faith.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and had held the Missouri State record for the largest paddlefish caught.  As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Mercy Hospital-Jefferson Chaplains’ Fund, 1400 Highway 61, Festus, MO  63028 or Highland Baptist Church, 5030 Highland Baptist Church Road, Hillsboro, MO  63050.
