Rev. Joel Elijah Sebastian was born July 10, 1927 in Parma, Missouri. He was the son of Kewen and Irene (Cunningham) Sebastian.
He died on May 13, 2011 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, Crystal City, MO at the age of 83 years.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda J. (Lucas) Sebastian, De Soto, MO; one son, Ronald W. (Pamela) Sebastian, Ormond Beach, FL; daughters, Irene L. (the late Larry) Mangum, Montgomery, AL; Vicki L. Sebastian, De Soto, MO; Cheryl S. (Dan) Mahn, De Soto, MO; and Rhonda J. (Jamie) Higgins, De Soto, MO; one brother, Talmadge “Ted” Sebastian, De Soto, MO; sisters, Elizabeth “Liz” Beckman, De Soto, MO; Claradean Boyer, De Soto, MO; and Laura Rhodes, De Soto, MO; 14 Grandchildren; 9 Great-Grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Catherine Tidwell and Wendell Sebastian.
Joel was a member of First Assembly of God Church, De Soto, MO; Teamsters Local 600, VFW; American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans. He was a retired driver for Yellow Freight and also a retired Assembly of God minister. He served in the US Army during World War II and the Korean War and among other military commandations he also received a Purple Heart.
