Lilly Mabel Huskey, age 92, peacefully passed away at Hillcrest Care Center in DeSoto, Missouri on Saturday, March 30, 2024, leaving a legacy of true love and kindness.
Lilly was born on July 18, 1931, in DeSoto, to Sarah Mabel (Akins) and Harold Hearst Kingsland. She was raised on a farm in DeSoto alongside her three siblings, Nancy, David, and Frank.
Her school career began when she was five years old at Mammoth School where she completed grades 1-8. She graduated from DeSoto High School in 1949, rising early to catch a ride into town with her dad, or anyone she could locate going that direction. She spent one year at Flat River Junior College boarding with a college professor and his family, and enjoyed her rides back and forth many weekends with Don Huskey, a special man in her life.
On June 7, 1952, while he was home on leave from basic training, Lilly married Donald Earl Huskey and together they raised five children, Raymond Howard, Gerald “Jerry” Wayne, Carolyn Sue, Lindell Gene and Donna June. She devoted herself to raising their children, teaching them Godly values and the importance of loving each another.
Throughout Lilly’s life, she was a secretary and also carried mail throughout the plant at Pittsburg Plate Glass in Crystal City. She also worked at the Shoe Factory in DeSoto. With all her children in school, Lilly began a daycare. For over 20 years, she cared for hundreds of children in her home. She worked for Jefferson Square Lodge in DeSoto and was an Assistant Activities Director at Hillcrest Care Center. Lilly was also an officer of the Oakland Baptist Church Cemetery for over 40 years.
Lilly’s personal relationship with Jesus Christ was most important in her life. She attended Oakland Baptist Church from the time of her birth through 1982, then moved her membership to First Baptist Church of DeSoto. Among many other church responsibilities, Lilly played the piano, taught Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School for over 75 years.
Lilly is survived by all five children, Raymond (Elaine) Huskey of DeSoto, Jerry (Mary) Huskey of Jackson, Missouri, Carolyn (Dan) Scott of DeSoto, Lindell (Myrna) Huskey of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Donna (Willie) Isaacson of Richmond, Missouri. Lilly is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, with two more great-grandchildren expected soon.
Lilly was preceded in death by her husband, Don, her parents, Hearst and Mabel Kingsland, her sister Nancy Apple, and her two brothers, David and Frank Kingsland—all of DeSoto.
Before Lilly left this earth, she left this message. “I love you all a lot and I want to see you all in heaven one day. I hope you will be in heaven with me.”
A visitation is scheduled from 5-8 pm Saturday, April 6, 2024. The funeral service is Sunday, April 7, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main in DeSoto. Lilly will be laid to rest beside her loving husband in the Oakland Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oakland Baptist Church Cemetery Association 1132 Churchill Court, DeSoto, MO, 63020.
