I am sorry that I could not attend the funeral service last Saturday. I was out of town. I visited with John when he was in the hospital last November. We talked about our experiences at Missouri Baptist University and about the plus-two program at Jefferson College and how he built it. Over the years John and I made road trip to places such as Bunker, Boss(where we stopped for ice cream), Farmington, Fredericktown, and to Ellington. He helped me considerably when I was teaching in the plus-two program at Jefferson College. He was kind and considerate to everyone and shall be missed. GOD bless. Doug Morris

I was terribly saddened to learn of John's passing. I had the pleasure of working with him at Missouri Baptist University from 1996-2005. He took me under his wing, mentored me, and helped me to grow professionally. Two words that come to mind when I think of John are DEDICATED and VISIONARY. He was completely dedicated to helping students achieve their goals, and he was equally committed to helping the University to grow and expand. John was a visionary ahead of his time--he was constantly on the lookout for new opportunities and new ways of serving students. Primarily as a result of his efforts, MBU was able to create several high-quality regional learning centers (extension sites). On a lighthearted note, I remembered lovingly calling John the absent-minded professor, because he was constantly forgetting his notebook, or his keys, or something similar. John was one of a kind, and my life was made better because of him.

What a Great man. I will dearly miss Coach. We were Rotary Brothers as well as my basketball coach in the 60's. My thoughts and prayers are with all the Family.

My thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathy go out to the entire Freeman family. John Freeman was an inspiration to me. I looked up to him, actively sought his approval as a teen, and still strive to exhibit his many great qualities. We all lost a wonderful human being, but heaven gained an incredible angel. Martha, Kathy, and Mrs. Freeman - I know how difficult this must be for you all, but I also know that John is In a better place watching over you from above now. Sending love and prayers for all three of you!

I have known John since 1978. Through all those years John was nothing less than a class act. He helped many people , including myself ,in many ways that no one else ever knew about. There is no doubt in my mind whose company he is in at this moment. The world is a lesser place without him.

John was my coach, my neighbor, and my friend. I will remember John for his encouragement and kindness he showed me as a marginal basketball team member. I will remember John me for running behind when he and I would talk too long about sports when he was in the office. (but it was worth it) I will remember John, on his own initiative, working to have a ceremony and a special day for my mother, honoring her athletic achievements from her 1930’s school days. It was so special for her. John had a very positive influence on me and many other people I know. Thank you, John Rest In Peace

My thoughts and prayers are with John's family. The world is a much better place because of his positive influence on so many and the selfless contributions he made to the surrounding community. I count myself among those most richly blessed by having the privilege of knowing John and benefiting so much from his impact on my life. I will always be eternally grateful for his friendship.

What a loss for the De Soto Community!!! If I could only use one word to describe Dr. Freeman, it would be "kind". He was always kind. He was never in the high school building that he didn't stop by the Athletic Office... Whether it was just to stick his head in the door to say, "Hi" or to sit down and share some basketball stories. I've missed that. My deepest sympathy goes out to Elaine, Sarah and the Freeman family. I lost my oldest brother earlier this year and I know the void it can leave. The blessing in this is the assurance that we will, someday, see them again. Sincerely, Judi Huskey
