Dolly was my partner at Athena for many years, and my friend for many more. She was a kind and patient teacher, but she expected (and got) a lot from her students. No student ever doubted that Dolly cared about and believed in them. As a teacher I learned many invaluable teaching strategies from Dolly, but perhaps most important, that it was okay to let something go and try again another day. As a friend I was honored to be able to speak about her at her retirement dinner. Dolly spent much of her life working with other people's children, but her boys, and later their families, meant the world to her. She worried about them, loved them, was proud of them every moment of everyday of her life. John and Scott, I am so sorry that I was unable to be at the memorial service.

Dolly will be missed. She tutored my son Bobby for many years. I remember in college he had to write some kind of paper and he took it by her house to get her opinion on it. He said she would know if it was okay.

Dolly was a wonderful person. Dolly tutoried two of my children, Susan and Jason. The kids all loved her and it was always a joy to speak with her. Dolly was a role model for many of our Athena kids growing up. Dolly had so much patience for the kids and they all loved her dealy. She will be missed by many.

I will always remember Dolly because when I began teaching at Athena Elementary she befriended me and helped me get a grip on the learning disabilities program. She was quite a role model for me. She treated her students with love and kindness and helped them increase their self esteem. She always put her students needs first. She continued to encourage and help students by tutoring even after she had "retired". She was definitely one of those "special" teachers that touched countless lives.
God Bless you, Dolly!
