August “Gus” Winckel was born in St, Louis on February 23, 1932. He died at his De Soto home on August 1, 2020 at the age of 88. He is survived by his sons: Jeff Winckel, De Soto; and Gary (Carolyn) Winckel, Dothan, AL, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Barbara Hoelzel, De Soto and Mary Courtois, De Soto. He is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Bernice (nee Evans) Hoelzel; wife, Teresa (nee Bayer) Winckel; a daughter Tina Tissot; and a brother Robert “Bob” Winckel. Gus had retired as an inspector for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft and a very active member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and V.F.W. Post #1831.
