Ruth Elizabeth Downs was born on July 22, 1930 in Belgrade, a daughter to Lawrence and Oma (nee Giffin) Gillam. She died at her De Soto home on December 28, 2013 at the age of 83. She is survived by her children: Michael (Vicki) Downs, Festus, Margaret “Margie” Downs, Olympian Village, and Marie Downs, De Soto; two sisters: Mary Ann Gillam, Parsons, KS, and Betty (the late Lawrence) Mearsel, De Soto; two brothers: Lawrence (Judy) Gillam, De Soto, and Merle (Shirley) Gillam, St. Louis; four grandchildren: Michelle, Michael, Dave, and Tonya; six great-grandchildren; and a dear friend Jordan Northcutt. She is preceded in death by her husband: Howard W. Downs; one daughter: Marilynn Downs; one son: Melvin Downs; one sister: Lottie Gillam; and three brothers: Harold Gillam, Earl (Emma Lou “Cookie”) Gillam, and Darrell (wife Betty survives) Gillam.
