Andrea England Braun died peacefully Monday, April 22, 2024, at her home in St. Louis, MO of complications of recurring cancer. She is survived by her husband David Braun, their daughter Joanna Braun Ackermann and grandchildren Katie, Andy and Elise Ackermann, all of St. Louis. Andrea grew up in DeSoto, MO, the daughter of Andrew H. England and Dava Lee England (nee Mothershead).

Andrea held bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, national fraternity recognizing high attainment of liberal arts scholarship. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy in English in 1994 from St. Louis University.

A gifted teacher, she was an adjunct faculty member at several institutions of higher learning, including Webster University where she was director of what was then known as the Freshman Seminar Program, 2001-2004, and was nominated for the William T. Kemper Award for Excellence in Teaching. Also, she taught at St. Louis University and the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

For many years, Andrea was an insightful reviewer of theatre in St. Louis for several media outlets and was known for her quick wit, sense of humor, excellent writing, and perceptive but gentle criticism.

Andrea will be remembered for her straightforward but caring disposition and generous nature by family and friends alike.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to Autism Speaks or the American Cancer Society.
