Mary Catherine “Khaki” Scott Hammond was born May 30, 1929 in De Soto, MO. She was the daughter of Aaron Dover and Marie Odele (DeClue) Stroup. She died on November 26, 2012 at her home in Hillsboro, MO at the age of 83 years 5 months 27 days. She is survived by her daughter, Vicki A. (Chuck) Martin, Hillsboro, MO; a son, Colby (Jane) Scott, Hillsboro, MO; stepdaughters, Jimmie Sue Meyer and Alta Jayne Hammond; stepson, Peter D. (Elsie) Hammond; grandchildren, Colby Neil Scott, Caitlin A. (Jared) Santinelli, Connor R. Scott, and Mitchell J. Scott, sisters-in-law, Betty L. Scott Coleman, Wilma Schlett Stroup, Mabel Page, and Louise McCutchen Page as well as many nieces, nephews, stepgrandchildren and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Harold H. “Short” Scott; her second husband, William O. “Bill” Hammond; brothers, Walter Tade Page, Vernon Page, Aaron J. Stroup, James S. Stroup, and Thomas E. Stroup; sisters, Wilma Pope, Norma L. Stroup, Joan R. Ditch and Frances Mae Pashia; stepson, William E. (Jane survives) Hammond and stepdaughter Katherine L. Nichols. Mary attended school in De Soto, MO. She was a retired U.S. Postal Worker having worked at the Hillsboro Post Office for 23 years. As a young woman she had worked at Pittsburg Plate Glass Co. in Crystal City and the Cottage Grill in De Soto. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and Auxiliary Member of De Soto Elks Lodge #689. Memorials may be made to BJC Hospice Foundation, or St. Vincent dePaul Society, Good Shepherd Parish, Hillsboro, MO.
