Lindell G. “Pete” Hoelzel was born in Melzo on June 26, 1931 a son to Helmuth Emil and Maude (nee Holdman) Hoelzel.  He died on October 27, 2023 in Troy, IL at Cedarhurst of Troy at the age of 92.  Pete served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a very proud member of Laborers’ Local #110 for over 50 years and a Life Member of V.F.W. Post #6883. A St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan he also collected St. Louis Cardinal memorabilia.  Pete spent countless hours in his gardens at his rural De Soto home and was known for the tomatoes he grew. An accomplished musician he enjoyed listening to music performed by Johnny Cash and Ernest Tubb.  He is survived by his wife of 68 years Eugenia “Jean” (nee Aubuchon) Hoelzel, Troy, IL; a son Steven (Debbie) Hoelzel, Glen Carbon, IL and four nieces:  Margie (Doug) Urban, Ballwin, Marilyn (Don) Hamilton, Bowling Green, Joy (Scott) Graves, De Soto and Jan (Stan) Fauth, De Soto and their families.  He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Benno Hoelzel and Charles (Norma) Hoelzel.  As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to: the Gary Sinise Foundation, P.O.
