Delores Ann Allen (née Schumacher), age 82, of Festus, Missouri, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 6, 1943, in Jefferson County, Missouri, she was the daughter of Delmar Schumacher and Flora (Johnston) Schumacher. Dee grew up with a deep appreciation for the outdoors, animals, and the value of hard work — qualities that would define her life and legacy. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Dee married Garry Allen, and together they built a life full of love, laughter, and meaningful traditions. She was the proud mother of Elizabeth Joseph (née Allen) and her husband Richard Joseph, and the adoring grandmother to Paige, Vavia, Meredith, and Eden. She is also survived by her brother Richard Schumacher, sister-in-laws Judy Weathers and Carol Phillips, and all of their children and grandchildren, and her beloved dog Ripp.
A proud member of the Laborers Union, Dee also worked with the Department of Family Services, where she brought her tireless work ethic and compassion to those in need.
Her passions ran deep — especially for horses. Dee raised and showed Quarter Horses in Western competitions and even competed in barrel racing in her younger years. She loved the horse community and passed this passion to her daughter, Elizabeth, instilling in her the same respect and love for these animals.
Dee also found joy in the simple beauty of nature. She cared for hummingbirds and barn cats, watched the deer, turkeys, foxes, and raccoons that often visited, and tended her garden alongside Garry with pride and devotion. Her garden was as much a labor of love as it was a sanctuary.
Strong-willed, hard-working, giving, and kind, Dee had a lighthearted sense of humor and a heart that welcomed everyone. She cherished her time with her grandchildren, whether hosting warm and memorable Christmas celebrations, playing a game of Scat with the grandkids around the table, or simply enjoying the comfort of family and friends.
Her circle of friends was far-reaching — too many to list — and she loved them all as deeply as they loved her.
She will be missed beyond measure, but her warmth, spirit, and legacy live on in the lives of those she touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that no flowers be sent. Donations may be made in Dee’s name to the American Cancer Society.
