Uncle David, or Dutchman as I called him since he called me Frenchman (hey, I was young) was one of my all-time favorite uncles on my mother’s, JoAnn Hayes, side. She was the youngest of 18, Uncle David being I think the oldest. I can’t tell you what good times I had going to Uncle David’s and Aunt Betty’s house. She gave the absolute best hugs and was always loaded with candy. It was just a great feeling going to visit them. Just so much joy and bubbly enthusiasm. We moved away in 1979 to Colorad and then I joined the Coast Guard in 1981, but I ALWAYS made it my mission to get back to DeSoto to visit The Dutchman. I made sure I came back for Aunt Betty’s funeral and after that, my son and I made several trips back just to “check up on him”. It was really just to reminisce as I knew he was in his late 90’s. In fact, my son and I were fortunate to have visited him about 3 months before he passed, so that was a great thing. He was certainly one of the good ones and he married on of the great ones. I’ll miss them both for certain.

David was a special friend to my parents. He was like a second dad to me. Dave & Betty treated me like a daughter. I remember the group of friends gathering at my parents farm, making signs of support for Jack Gannon while he ran for Missouri State Senator. They always enjoyed the barbecue my dad cooked on his big barbecue pit. Great times were had by all. Dave, Betty and my folks took many golf trips over the years and good times were had by all. I will miss Dave but I know a new star is shinning in the sky. That is Dave & Betty Mueller. I send my deepest condolences for all of Dave’s family. Fair winds and following seas Dave. Rest easy now.
