Bernice was a wonderfully kind and loving woman. I have known this since I was a child with my good friends Don and Larry. I spent a lot of fun times at the Deaton house on South 3rd Street and they spend a lot of fun times at the Dickinson house on South 4th Street. Bernice always treated me like one of her family—always kind and encouraging—and my mom loved the Deaton boys. I grew up and Bernice was the same lovely person I had known. One thing about Bernice was that she taught Don and Larry such good manners that they were the “gold standard” my mom used if I misbehaved (“Why can’t you have good manners like the Deaton boys?) Rest in peace, Bernice. A life well lived. You will be missed.

I met Bernice years ago when I took Mom & her Sunday School classmates: Dottie Kite, Lorraine Wellhausen, & Marion Filkins to Farmington Civic Center for MAGMA (Mid America Gospel Music) event. There was NO AGE BARRIER with those ladies. I had SO MUCH fun that night & it will forever remain... one of my fondess memories. From that night on, I would always get a hug & "I love you" from Bernice. I believe She was an angel before she entered heaven.
