Arthur was an avid golfer and golfed with my grandpa Bob Schutte. Bob and Cleta Schutte always invited him over to spend holidays with our family. Arthur was like one of our family members and always treated us like his family. He was a great man and may he rest in peace.

Art was my assistant principal at Union High School in Union, Missouri, and a fellow teacher at Bayless High School in St. Louis, Missouri. Most of all, I consider him a close friend. Art was a man with integrity. He had strong principles and he followed them. I think he set a good example for all of us. I express the deepest sympathy to his family. The only family member that I ever knew was Doris. I saw her several times when Art had surgery for cancer. Fortunately, he was cured by the surgery and chemo. God is good. May God bless each of you. In Christian love, Mary Adkins Halbrook

I first met Art Houston when I arrived to teach at Union High School. Art was not only my assistant principal and friend. He was my neighbor, and he introduced me to my husband, who was his golfing partner. Art and I left Union to teach at Bayless High School in St. Louis the same year, and we both stayed there for the remainder of our careers. I was glad that he was able to enjoy a long retirement among his family and old friends in DeSoto. Art was a dedicated educator who throughout the years always wanted to know what his students had made of their lives. He remembered them all. Many school yearbooks document Art's love of teaching. He also loved sports as a participant, a coach, and a spectator. At various times in his teaching career he coached young athletes in freshman basketball, cross country, and girls' softball. Most of all, though, he was a golfer. He loved to take golfing trips with his friends and compete in golf leagues. Art was a special person who lives on in the memories and stories of his friends, family, and students. We are blessed that he was part of our lives.
