Walter Albert Martin, Sr. was born in Cadet on June 22, 1929 a son to Charles and Rosa M. (nee Yates) Martin. He died on February 20, 2021 at Mercy Hospital-Jefferson at the age of 91. He is survived by his wife Geraldine (nee Payne) Martin, De Soto; four children: Walter A. “Tate” Martin, Jr., Festus, Tim (Catherine Richardson) Martin, De Soto, John (Michelle) Martin, De Soto and Rob (Crystal) Martin, De Soto; fifteen grandchildren: Cole, Chloe, Cayse, Claire, Tyson, Trevon, Malaya, Aaron, Colton, Shelby, Delaney, Mason, Dalton, Taylor, and Cayden; and one great-granddaughter Raina. He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Cleta Cornegie, Charlene Graham and Carolyn Sloan Beno and six brothers: William “Bill” Martin, Sam Martin, John Martin, Robert Martin, Art Martin and Bud Martin. Walter had served in the United States Army during World War II, was a member of Iron Workers Local #396 and served on the Washington County Sheriffs Department Auxiliary. He was also a longtime member of De Soto Elks Lodge and the First Baptist Church of De Soto. He enjoyed baseball, spending time with his family and having coffee with his friends at McDonald’s. As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to De Soto Little League Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 722, De Soto, MO 63020.
