Vern Lee Wolfmeyer entered into eternal rest on January 11, 2025, at the age of 85. Vern was born in Canton, Missouri on August 24, 1939 to the late Donald and Helen (nee: Hoffman) Wolfmeyer. Vern graduated from Northeast Teachers College in Kirksville, Missouri and began his long career as an educator. He met and married Doris (nee: Feranec) in St. Louis, Missouri on August 28, 1965. Vern and Doris moved to Lawrence, Kansas where Vern continued his education in chemistry at Kansas University becoming a die-hard KU basketball fan.

Vern and Doris moved to Jefferson County in 1967 when Vern took a job as a chemistry professor at Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Missouri. Vern and Doris moved to Hillsboro where they raised their two daughters, Lori (James) Weber and Sara (Nathan) Place.

Vern touched the life of numerous students in his 31 years at Jefferson College. Teaching chemistry for the health sciences he would frequently encounter former students working in health care and always could remember their names and something about them.

Vern was a lifelong Lutheran and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in DeSoto, Missouri. Vern was also a long time member of the DeSoto Elks Lodge. He spent many years serving on the scholarship committee for the local and state Elks. He enjoyed golfing and making golf clubs for friends and family. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially his Jayhawks during basketball season and the St. Louis Cardinals during baseball season. And of course Vern loved feeding the birds and had an ongoing battle with the resident squirrels constantly reminding them which feeder was theirs.

Vern was proud of his family and was always interested in what his four grandchildren were doing. He would brag about them to anyone who stopped by.

Vern is survived by his wife Doris, daughters Lori (James) Weber of Wentzville, MO and Sara (Nathan) Place of O’fallon, MO, grandchildren Kyle (Emily) Weber of Littleton, CO, Kaitlyn Weber of Wentzville, MO and Alyssa and Conner Place of O’fallon, MO, and a brother Lynn Wolfmeyer of Macomb, IL and sister Judy Hadfield of LaGrange, MO.

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, cousin, uncle and friend.

Memorials can be made to the Elks National Foundation.
