Roberta Anne Schlanker, 86, of Kansas City, MO passed away on August 13, 2024.
A graduate of Central Methodist University, she began her teaching career in Troy, MO and later taught for many years in the English Department at DeSoto Junior High School. Following her retirement, she was active with the Friends of the DeSoto Public Library, quilting, gardening and traveling with her husband, Charles.
Roberta was a wonderful teacher who touched many lives during her career. She truly loved teaching and inspired many to follow her into the profession. She was also a wonderful mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She passed on her love of learning and reading to others, often recommending the latest good book she had found. A lifelong learner like her mother, she never ceased learning new things. Her favorite book was To Kill a Mockingbird and her favorite poet, Robert Frost. The family encourages everyone to read both in her memory.
Born in West Bend, Wisconsin, Roberta was the eldest child of Robert and Lou (Behncke) Woodington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; a son, Charles Erich; a brother, Richard C. Woodington, and her parents.
Surviving is a son, Kurt M. Schlanker (Sarah) of Parkville, MO, brother David K. Woodington (Theresa) of Meritt Island, FL and sister Gloria J. Northcutt of New London, MO. Other survivors include grandchildren, Amanda Schlanker (Jim Huffman), Charles J. Schlanker (Heidi), Samuel, and Grace; great-grandson Trent; great-granddaughters Jaycee and Charlee; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial service will be at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in DeSoto, MO on September 14, 2024 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Friends of the DeSoto Public Library.
