Born March 12, 1922 to Wesley Thurmond & Clara Thurmond.  She was the youngest of 6 children, 4 girls & 2 boys.  She was born in Herculaneum, MO.  Her family moved to South St. Louis while Ottie was a baby. 
 
When Ottie was 13 years of age her family moved to Vineland, MO. 
At the age of 14 she started cleaning for Florence and Jim Woolsey and babysitting for them.  Little did she know she would meet her future husband, Florence’s younger brother, General.
 
Ottie Mae & General were wed on January 7, 1939 in Bonne Terre, MO.  They moved to South St. Louis where they lived and began their family.  Ottie and General had four children 3 boys, Larry (Margaret), Ron (Rosalyn), and the late John Johnston and 1 girl, Janet (the late David) Ketcherside.
In 1959 they moved to Hillsboro.
 
She enjoyed traveling, she and General went on a few trips and she traveled with her children and grandchildren.
She had 15 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
 
She was preceded in death by her son John; her husband passed in August 2002; and she was also preceded in death by a grandson in 2007.
 
She would be right there along General’s side whether it was planting, picking or canning.
