Marie Hilary Schmitt was born Marie Vest in St. Louis on July 22, 1919 a daughter to Thomas and Sadie (nee Green) Vest. She died June 7, 2013 at Hillcrest Care Center at the age of 93. She is survived by three sons: Walter M. Schmitt, Jr, De Soto; Steve (Kay) Schmitt, De Soto, and Thomas (Linda) Schmitt, Council Bluffs, Iowa; five grandchildren: Angela (Rev. Jay) Jackson, Matt (Tiffany) Schmitt, Tiffany (Chad) Nation, Brian (Diane) Schmitt, and Andrew (Amanda) Schmitt; and five great grandchildren: Kassie Jackson, Zack Jackson, MacKenzie Jackson, Raymond Nation, and Thomas Schmitt. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Walter M. Schmitt, Sr.; and one brother: Harold Vest. She worked with her husband at Walt’s Tile and Paint in Farmington and was also the proprietor of the Craft Corner, also in Farmington until her retirement. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella Circle #659.
