Joseph E. “Ol’ Roy” Ellis, Sr., was born on August 7, 1938 in De Soto a son to George W. and Edna (nee Leas) Ellis.  He died at Mercy Hospital-Jefferson on October 23, 2019 at the age of 81.  He is survived by three children: Pam Brown, Justine Ellis and Joseph (Dianna) Ellis, Jr.; seven grandchildren: Michael Brown, Cole Elder, Cadence Elder, Chris Ellis, Mark Ellis, Michael Ellis, and Rhonda Ellis; and six great-grandchildren: Jordan Brown, Aubrey Ellis, Brantley Ellis, Brayden Ellis, Izzy Ellis, and Brandon Moore.  He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ron Ellis; and one brother Paul Ellis.  Joe had worked for American Car Foundry and retired from O.M.S. Company.  He enjoyed performing traditional country and bluegrass music and was known in music circles as “Ol’ Roy”
