James Robert “Bob” Jones was born in Sesser, IL on September 8, 1927 a son to Robert Lynn and M. Ruby (nee Taylor) Jones. He died July 16, 2013 at Big Bend Retreat in Slater, MO at the age of 85. He left Sesser High School (where he still holds the Track and Field record for the mile run) a year before his scheduled graduation to join the Merchant Marines. In 1947 he met Nadine Armbruster who he married at Mt. Olive United Methodist Church on July 31, 1949. He worked as a Mechanical Forman for Monsanto until his retirement. Bob enjoyed music and sang in several area quartets including one comprised of his brother and two of his sisters. He was also a faithful member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church and served on the Mt. Olive Cemetery Board. He is survived by his wife: Nadine; his son: Dr. Steven (Ruth) Jones, D.D.S., Glasglow; one grandson: James “Jamie” (Ashley) Jones, De Soto; one great-grandson: Braylon Sullenger; and three sisters: Ja’net (Butch) Burzinski, Sesser, IL, Jean Kirk, Washington, IL, and Sharon (Frank) Cockrum, Sesser, IL. He is preceded in death by one brother: Duane Jones; one brother-in-law: Ken Kirk; and two sisters-in-law Carol and Madge Jones. As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Mt. Olive Cemetery.
