Gordon Luther “Bernie” Olds was born June 13, 1928 in South Haven, MI. He was the son of Claude and Loretta “May” (nee Blaney) Olds. He died on November 24, 2013 at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Festus, MO at the age of 85 years 5 months 11 days. He is survived by his children, William R. “Bill” (Lisa) Polley, De Soto, MO; Mark (Beth) Olds, De Soto, MO; Mary (the late Bob) Sloan, Poplar Bluff, MO; Linda Graham, Wellsville, MO; Richard Olds, Goldon, CO; and John Olds, New FLorence, MO; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elizabeth Jean “Betty” (nee Deis) Olds; two sisters, Alice Doggendorf and Ruth Damsgaard. Bernie was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, De Soto, MO; 4th degree Knights of Columbus Cardinal Glennon Assembly #1185; VFW Post #3777; he volunteered for De Soto Food Pantry, St. Vincent dePaul, and Teens Encounter for Christ; he was also a Parish School of Religion Instructor at St. Rose of Lima. He also served in the U.S. Army.

Our Family, Mary, Mark and I, would like to request that any memorial gifts be sent to DeSoto Contact in lieu of flowers. Flowers are really beautiful, smell great and create a great atmosphere, but are short lived. Dad was more of a realist and did not share Mom’s great passion for flowers. They did however share a great passion for DeSoto Contact and the work that was done there. We would like to ask you to consider making a gift to them in Dad’s name. This will not only enhance this organization’s ability to carry out their mission this Holiday season, but will allow Dad to continue touching lives and sharing his legacy even after he has left this worldly place. Donations can be left with Dietrich Funeral home or sent to me @ 625 Allen Place, DeSoto MO. Please make checks payable to DeSoto Contact.
God Bless one and all as we complete Dad’s journey home this week and take him to his final resting place, gathering in his name to celebrate the legacy of his life he has left with us all!
