Ernie Rebstock, beloved son of Marie Denby and Richard Rebstock, was born in St. Louis on June 29th, 1989, and passed away September 28th, 2024. He was raised in DeSoto by his Grandma Vernie. Despite challenges, he finished his school career strong and earned his high school diploma at Riverview Gardens in St. Louis. He professed a strong faith and love for God.

Ernie loved to make people smile, play video games, and watch a great variety of movies and anime. He could talk at length about these subjects and held enthusiasm that made his blue eyes light up. He appreciated family togetherness and adored everyone he met in his family from his mom and dad to his siblings to his grandparents to his uncles and aunts and his cousins. He was known by all to be gentle, sweet, and kind of silly. Sometimes, he would do little dances at random.

As kids, he would play a Nintendo game called Smash Bros. with his sisters, Vivian and Heidi. He usually played Donkey Kong or Bowser – the big, tough characters – a bit of a difference from who he was himself: a gentle giant. The three siblings would usually play several rounds. They’d challenge, taunt, and laugh with each other. It was not uncommon for their characters to fall off the edge of the stage in ridiculous and embarrassing ways. Even years later as an adult, Ernie played a new version of the same game with his brother, Daniel. This time, he’d take on the character of the super cool super spy Solid Snake. He liked one-player games, but he liked games with more than one player even better.

Almost a decade ago, Ernie attended a Denby family reunion where he spent quality time with his aunts and uncles and especially his cousins. He also partook in one of his other favorite pastimes: sampling delicious food.

His mother shared many fond memories with Ernie. He used to make tacos for her. He insisted on taking out the trash when it was slippery out because he was afraid she’d fall. They often took long walks together to the store or gas station. These were peaceful times.

He is survived by his mother Marie, his brother Eddie, his sister Emily, his sister Etta, his sister Heidi, his sister Vivian, his brother Amos, and his brother Daniel.

He will be remembered for his childlike joy and the light he brought in the lives of everyone he met. His memory will live on forever in our hearts.
