We salute WWII crew member Ernest Frank Kispert. This is his ship, USS NORTH CAROLINA, in Puget Sound, 1944. Ernie Kispert reported aboard the day the Battleship was commissioned in New York Navy Yard, April 9, 1941. He was an apprentice seaman, perhaps right out of boot camp. Four years later, when he was detached on May 30, 1945 in Pearl Harbor, he had risen to the rank of Chief Commissary Steward, in charge of the enlisted men's galley on a battleship. Quite an achievement in a short amount of time. We enjoyed seeing him at the Battleship reunions where he always looked so happy among his fellow crew members and their families. We will remember Ernie during the annual crew reunion memorial service May 2, 2020. We wish his family and friends love and comfort during their time of mourning.
