Elery M. “Jack” Sharp was born July 25, 1922 in Wylam, Alabama a son to Charles and Matilda (nee Orr) Sharp. He is survived by his wife, Lora Mae (nee Mountford) Sharp, who he married on September 24, 1977 in De Soto; three children, Gloria (Clyde) Klaus, Four Seasons, MO; Elery M. (Cheryl) Sharp, Jr., Ballwin, MO; Betty Sue (Dan) Kinder, Fenton, MO; one step-son David (Vicki) McAnally, De Soto, MO; one brother, Linal Sharp; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; his step-father Nathan Hand; one daughter, Kay Nicholson; one sister, Lucille Raygon; and one brother, Charlie Sharp. Jack was a member of the VFW Post #1831; Life Member of Amvets Post #48 and Past Commander; American Legion; Past President of De Soto Lion’s Club; B.P.O.E. Lodge #689; and I.B.E.W. Local #1. He was also a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, De Soto, MO. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater being awarded several commendations including five Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. Upon returning to De Soto following his military service he worked as an electrician for Charles Meier Electric. Jack voluteered much time to the organizations he belonged to, especially Amvets Post #48. He also enjoyed playing golf and his weekly card games. Rev. Dr. G. Michael Rose, Pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church will officiate the services. There will be an Amvets Memorial Service Tuesday at 7:00pm.
