My Aunt Dorothy was a huge presence and advisor in my life. I have saved almost all of her letters, full of witticisms, poetry, memories and cherished advice. She wrote a letter like no one else ever did. Her letters were conversations. She connected to me emotionally as far back as I can remember. I always felt her deep love. When my mother died, Aunt Dorothy was my mother. And she knew it. She was both regal and humble; smart and quick. She had a memory to behold and a soul that shone through---beautiful and bright, just as she looked. I cherish her and will love her forever. Kathy Mortwedt-Hanson

Some of my favorite memories with Gram are the walks we had through the fields and woods, admiring God's beauty along the way. She would stop and talk about the various wildflowers we encountered. She taught me to slow down and take notice of the beauty of nature around me.
