Lula A. “Lou” Johnston passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025 at Southbrook in Farmington, MO, surrounded by her family. Born in Mineral Point, MO on July 14, 1935, she was the daughter of Oscar and Grace (nee Pitts) Barchus. She is survived by her four children: Nathan (Pam) Johnston of Troy, IL, Debbie (Lou) Colmo of Arnold, MO, Clifford Johnston of De Soto, MO, and Verla (Lee) Butcher of Park Hills, MO. She is grandmother to 11, great-grandmother to 18 and great-great-grandmother to 4. She is also survived by first cousins Karen Wells of St. Louis and William Woosley of Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents. Lou led her life as a free spirit who was fun loving with lots of sass. She loved unconditionally. In her younger years she loved dancing and socializing. In her senior years she loved traveling and spent a decade of winters in Mississippi, where she made many friends and frequented as many casinos as she could. As a young girl she was baptized in Bates Creek in the Baptist faith. Upon raising her family she converted to the Lutheran religion.
