Sharon Elaine Gibbons Vance, a fifth generation resident of Jefferson County, died of heart failure, May 29, 2024 at Mercy Hospital Jefferson, Crystal City, MO. Family members were with her as she left this life behind. Sharon was a true Baby Boomer, born Sept 28. 1945 a few weeks after the end of World War II. Her parents, David Franklin Gibbons and June Cramer Gibbons met working at Small Arms Defense Plant, St. Louis. As the war ended they made their home on Highway 110, DeSoto, MO. In the years to follow Sharon expanded and improved “Rose of Sharon Cottage”. She spent her life there. Divorced from Gordon Jett, Sharon leaves two sons behind to remember her with love and laughter. Erich Jett (Gail) and Randal Jett (Jewelene) and one grandson, beloved but absent, Nickolas Holman. She has one older sister, Sandra LaRouche (Robert) of St. Louis. Her late paternal grandparents were Clarence Gibbons (Lucille) and Hallie Donnell Gibbons Clark. Sharon attended DeSoto Schools and was an accomplished legal secretary and paralegal for several Hillsboro legal firms after having worked for the federal government immediately after school. In retirement, working at the DeSoto Library gave her great pleasure. Her favorite day was Cat in the Hat Day. Sharon liked to laugh. She especially enjoyed European travel with her son, Randal’s, family. She was a faithful member of De Soto Christian Church and enjoyed the company of many friends until the recent failure of her health. Sharon loved the vitality of festivals in Kimmswick and weekends in Branson. It can be said of Sharon Gibbons Vance, that, throughout her life, she was a kind, generous, loving, intelligent, Democrat and Christian.
