Dee Phipps

May 11, 1923 - February 15, 2014

Dee Troy Phipps was born May 11, 1923 near Saco, Madison County, Missouri, the son of Matthew and Elma Augusta (nee Graham) Phipps. He died February 15, 2014 in Farmington at the age of 90. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Marjorie “Margie” (nee Bernhardt) Phipps, De Soto; three sons: Steven Phipps, Kimmswick, John Phipps, St. Charles, and Mark (Laura) Phipps, De Soto; and three grandchildren: Andrew, Caroline and Aaron Phipps. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Harley Elmer “Buck” Phipps, Jesse Emanuel “Jess” Phipps, and John Onus Phipps; and two sisters: Anne Ernestine Ramsey and Mary Arizona Isgrigg.
He was honorably discharged from the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1940, and joined the United States Navy in 1943. In his 21 years of active duty in the Navy he served on several ships including the Chalcedony, the Pauite, the Canberra, the Intrepid, and the Piedmont and retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He then worked for McDonnell-Douglas for 20 years before retiring to his rural De Soto cattle farm. Interment with military honors will be in the Christian Cemetery, Fredericktown, MO.
