William D. Martin of De Soto was born on August 29, 1921 in Fertile, MO; he died on May 25, 2012 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in De Soto.  He was the son of Chas. & Rosa (Yates) Martin.  William married Verna (Politte) Sullivan in Clay County Arkansas on April 6, 1947; she preceded him in death in 1998.  He is survived by two brothers, Sam (Betty) Martin of Hillsboro; and Walter (Geraldine) Martin of Cadet; and three step-grandchildren, Kathy (Bill) Masson of Potosi; Stephanie Boyer of Valle Lake; and Larry (Debbie) Boyer of Yukon, Oklahoma; and step-great grandchildren; brother-in-law, John Price of Cadet; sister-in-law, Jean Bliss(Junior) Knight of De Soto; he is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill spent most of his adult life working in the refrigeration business in California with his brothers John & Bud Martin.  Bill moved back to Missouri and was employed by Wal-Mart.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Normandy Invasion in WWII.  He was a member of the De Soto Elks 689, Amvets Post 48, & VFW Post 1831; 1941 graduate of De Soto High School.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three sisters, Cleta Cornegie, Charlene Graham, & Carolyn Sloan Beno; four brothers, John, Robert, Art, & Bud Martin; his step-daughter, Donna Boyer; & step grandson, Alvie “Bo” Boyer.
