They called him "Little Billy" he called me "Little Bonnie". Being raised by Billy,s Mom and Dad, my Grandparents made Bill more of a Brother then an Uncle. I followed that curly red head everywhere. Something Bill complained about for the next 70 years. For 6 years I was there to report every miss deed, every girlfriend, every secret. He complained and teased, but truth be told, he loved me! The memories that come up as I sit here typing surprise even me. I remember the time he rode his bike down a major steep hill in Maple Heights, on a dare, and almost killed himself. I told. I remember him sneaking his Dads smokes, I told. The girlfriend...I told. He hid my dolls. I told! Billy was quite the adventurer. He went out to California before any of us even knew California existed. He joined the Navy! Bill loved the Navy. Years later in St. Louis, we went to the movie "Midway" and for that hour he was back in the service. Said it was the best time of his life. I still have the oriental doll he sent me from his time overseas. His letters were full of kidding. Just like when we were kids. HIs bold script and exclamation marks so stated Bills personality. Cartoon drawings to further state his point. He took me to the Play Boy Club and was so proud of his KEY. That's when that was a wild and crazy thing to do! I went out the wrong door and set off the alarms. Billy thought that was a riot. He loved me for it. Of course I put the blame on him. I will so miss those Birthday calls we made to each other on Sept. 12 and Oct 12. It hurts just to think about not getting one next year. I miss you Little Billy. Love, Little Bonnie

I'm so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I feel very blessed to have known Bill. We started working together at Murphy in the mid 90's. All the former PED & former Grossmann employees had our own little fraternity house for a while. Bill never hesitated to voice his opinion but he always figured out a way to get the job done. Bill's comics were legendary. I loved feeding him ideas (about other people's mishaps) and seeing what he came up with. Not many ever got anything over on Bill but one of our favorite stories was when I hid Bill's brand new car (blue Pontiac grand am?). I pulled into the parking lot right after Bill had run back into the office to get something and left his car running. I relocated his car to the back parking lot and came in the back door. By the time I got to Sandy's desk, she was giving Bill all kinds of hell for leaving his car running in this neighborhood and Bill was very distraught. I just smiled and handed him his keys. He was so relieved that his car really wasn't stolen, I don't think he ever got be back for that one. Bill will certainly be missed but will always be remembered. Robert "Bobby" Grossmann

I am so very sorry to hear this sad news. I worked with Bill at Murphy Company. He was the best person to work with. Bill always made working a ton of fun. His drawings were always so funny and he captured his "subject" to a "T"!!!! His sense of humor was like no other I have known. He was the best. I will miss him very much. We have all lost a fantastic friend in Bill. Kimberly Ross

I am very sorry to hear the new of Bill's passing. I worked with Bill on a few jobs with the Murphy Co. While at first he comes off as a cranky, Bill was actually very funny with an awesome sense of humor and often would make drawings to illustrate his joke. He was very detailed in his job and never let any small detail get passed. And even in this day of computers and technology he would still draw and dimension everything by hand and it would always be correct. He will be missed. Arron Garcia

Bill Hughes will be deeply missed. My name is Earnest Evans, I worked with Bill off and on for the past 13 years at the Murphy Company. First and foremost, bill was great to work with. He was hilarious. He would always come to my cubicle and say, "What's happening easy". .. .. . followed by a fat joke. . . . . he always made me laugh! When Bill came in, everyone always perked up. From a work standpoint, I will forever regard him as the very best. Bill could take a set of plans on friday, design a complete hospital, fully estimated, and ready to go by monday, There was no one like him, nor will there ever be. I'm grateful i got to know Bill and had an opportunity to work with him. My deep condolences to the family for your loss. Earnest
