Theodore “Ted” Hurtgen, Jr. was born on March 15, 1925 in De Soto, MO.  He was the son of the late Theodore & Grace (nee Evans) Hurtgen, Sr.  He died on June 9, 2011 at Crystal Oaks Nursing Facility in Crystal City, MO at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 25 days.  

He is survived by his son, Bill (Sabrina) Hurtgen of Hillsboro, MO; daughter, Carolyn (Jeff) King of Tulsa, OK; brother, Robert (Shirley) Hurtgen of Hillsboro, MO; sister, Peggy  (Charles “Mac”) McMullin of Festus, MO; grandchildren, Christopher (Katie) King, Jennifer (Curtis) Wiederholt, Ryan, Carissa, & Kyle (Jessica White) Hurtgen; great grandchildren, Ethan, Owen, Hailey, & Andrew King, Jackson, Benjamin, Luke & Joshua Wiederholt, & Kiera Hurtgen.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mae Marie (nee Crawford) Hurtgen, sisters, Katharine Jarrett & Rose Hickey.  

He was a member of the Hillsboro Rotary Club; served on the board at Community Federal Savings and Loan,  served on the Hillsboro R-III School Board, served on the Jefferson Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, was one of the  founders of the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsboro; and one of the  founders of the Hillsboro Fire Department.  He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII.    Mr. Hurtgen owned the Jefferson County Surveying Company and was a registered land surveyor. 

As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Hillsboro United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Hillsboro Fire Protection District.
