Did you know that glitter is a color? A favorite color, in fact, for Sandy Kohls – perhaps because she sparkled from within. She was a kind and happy soul who embraced life with a contagious exuberance that made you want to join her boating at the lake, RVing across the country with friends, or high-kicking across the parking lot after Mexican food and one or maybe three margaritas. She’s been known to tell tongue-twisting jokes, pick tomato candies with her grandchildren, dress as a hillbilly, and get into hilarious mischief. She convinced her sister, Pam, that pimentos were poisonous so she could have them all to herself. Her smile brightened any room she entered and her hugs were medicinal.

She managed parking and events at the STL arena. She even served as the official tour guide for the iconic building. She retired from Southwestern Bell as a sales manager and moved back to Missouri to be near family and friends.

More than anything else, she loved her family. She shared an amazing 55 year adventure with the love of her life, Ken Kohls. She was a cherished Mom to her two children, Kim and Scott. She was Sissy to Pam Labbee, her baby sister, and a beloved Nana to Rachel Stechman, Joshua Balsman, Brenden Kohls and Christian Kohls. She never knew a stranger and had a multitude of friends who adored her.

She was reunited with her husband, Ken Kohls, and son, Scott Kohls, as well as her mother and an entourage of family members and friends in Heaven on August 30, 2025. Her fur babies, Precious and Sasha, miss her deeply and will now be spoiled by their human sister, Kim.

Visitation will be on Friday September 5th from 5 to 8 pm. A celebration of her life and legacy will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, September 6th with graveside service to follow. Both will be held at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in DeSoto, Missouri.

Please no somber black. We are celebrating Sandy’s life and legacy with color.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the National Kidney Foundation.
