I knew Mary for many years through tennis. She was a wonderful partner on the court and the best teammate. She was steady, reliable, and humble as a player, but more importantly, she was one of the kindest and most gentle persons I know. As a retired teacher, I had talked with Mary about the joys of retirement, but she said she just loved what she did so much. I am glad she didn't retire; it looks like she touched a lot of people through art class and coaching tennis. I will really miss Mary come summer when it's time to sign up and play summer inter club tennis, but am so glad to have known her and played with her.

I played ball with Mary for several years a long time ago. She was left center, I was right center. I have been meaning to get in touch with her and now I feel bad that I didn't follow thru. Rest in peace.

Ms. Hoehn was the most selfless women i knew. She was my art teacher for 1 1/2 years and I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to take 4 unforgettable classes with her. The memories in those classes i will cherish forever. She didn’t just teach me art, she taught me so much more like the ability to stand in what I believe in or taking time to appreciate every little thing because you might miss it if you rush. She was the most strong minded, loving, and caring women. I’m forever thankful for having her in my life and she will forever be missed.

Ms. Hoehn was probably the best person in my life and always will be. She was my art teacher for 3 1/2 years. She always pushed me to do my best even though sometimes I was reluctant. I had liked art before I met her but I would not have the developed skill I have today if it wasn’t for her. She also taught me way more than art. I was a very rude and judgemental person before I was in her class my first semester of high school. I learned to be nice to people and not let people get to me. I was really close to her and could talk to her about anything. I will miss not talking to her in class about miscellaneous stuff that always got her off topic. I will carry the Art Club for her as the president because I know she’d be disappointed if I didn’t. I thank her for putting an internal moral compass in me so I keep pushing forward. I pray for her family because she was a wonderful person. She will be deeply missed.

I was one of Ms. Hoehn’s art students for the past year and a half. Over the year and a half, I created a special bond with Ms. Hoehn that I did not have with any other teacher. I looked forward to her class everyday and if I had to miss her class one day, then I would always be very disappointed that I wouldn’t get to have my daily conversation with her. She was a very influential person in my life and I looked up to her very much. I valued her opinions and I admired her as a person. I will never forget the memories I have made in her class and I will cherish the time I spent in her classroom forever. She taught me so much in her time as my teacher and I will be forever grateful for that. She has made me into the artist I am today. My prayers go out to the family and anyone that had the pleasure of knowing this wonderful lady. She will be missed dearly.

My daughter played tennis against her team from 2012-16 when she graduated. Whenever they played NC, Mary always had a positive word or a congratulations to her. Coming from a rival team my daughter took note of that because not too many coaches did that. As she goes forward with her education to be a teacher and a coach, she knows what kind of coach she wants to be. Mary has helped influence that. Our deepest condolences to her family and her NC family. She will be dearly missed.

I had Ms Hoehn in HS as an art teacher!! She was always smiling. I was shocked to learn she had passed. I was not the greatest student at art, she had a way with her students. She will be missed

I grew up in the same neighborhood with Mary and her sister. I was five years older than Mary so she was kind of like the baby of the neighborhood kids. Her mother Biz was the sister of my Uncle Paul's wife, Alice. My dad and Uncle Paul grew up across the street from Aunt Alice and Mary's mother and Paul married the girl next door. My dad built his home on the family property and to make a long story short three generations of Westhoff and Powers families grew up in the same neighborhood. To this day, my brother still lives on original Westhoff family property on the same street where Mary grew up. Great memories, great people, salt-of-the-earth families who loved and raised their families with much love and morals and love and pride of country. I would see Mary from time-to-time in adult life and she was always the smiling friendly person I knew her to be. I even ran into her on an airplane once when we were both on our way on vacation. I sure hate to hear that her life has been cut short as it sounds like she was such an excellent teacher and friend to so many. God bless her, I know she is celebrating her life with her mom and dad in heaven today and will patiently for those she loves to join them someday. Mary, if you can hear me, do me a favor and look up my mom and dad, Aunt Alice and Uncle Paul, Uncle Bernie and Aunt Audrey, Uncle Bill and Aunt Jean and our grandparents and give them all a big hug and kiss from me. Til we all meet again......

I am so sad to hear of Mary's passing. She was always a sweet person, played in numerous tennis tournaments and was a gracious winner and loser. Had a great sense of life and she will be missed by all.

I was one of the fortunate ones to have had Mary as one of my closest friends for almost 30 years ! We met on the tennis court and became close friends and a fierce doubles team. She was the calm one on court I was not just the opposite. She thought me SO MUCH about life and whats important. She loved teaching and had no plans of retiring, I heard stories almost daily about this student or that teacher she loved her job and I know has touched so many lives. I'm not sure how to go on from here there will be a huge hole in my life I will miss her voice and heart we spoke almost everyday, sometimes twice a day !! She was so excited to have a new great nephew (Henry) and her niece Jennifer was so important and a bright light in her life !! Mary loved being around children she had a way with them she loved spending time with Mikaela doing all kinds of different things. I know Mary would want us all to celebrate her life and to remember all the good times. After her mother passed we talked a lot about how hard it is to loose a parent but can look forward to a time when we will be with them again. I'm hoping Mary is with her parents and grandmother and at peace. My heart is broken !! Rest in peace my friend !!! Love and miss you so much!!!
