Dear Gene, You will understand when I tell you that I would get a lump in my throat every time I saw the forwarded e-mails regarding your condition. I could not help trying to understand it why or why not???..why must it be this way. During the last couple of months I missed being able to refer questions from customers or salesman ?God forbid? who would easily challenge me with a ?part? question but I always had a back-up it was you Gene. You were like that old pocket knife that you leave in the glove box and that sometimes you forgot you had but when a small crisis occurred you remembered who or what could help. I would never dare tell you this to your face but you were one of the best salesman I ever met ?Forgive me Gene? but you sold more parts than anyone I ever met, and taught many of us this art as well. You will never be forgotten I have learned many good things from you old friend and I will keep you close to my heart and think of you often. Thanks for always being there I truly miss you. Your Friend always!

Even tho our roads have taken us separate ways, I still remember how much Eugene taught me about cars & life. I didn't have a father growing up and he taught me things a dad would teach a son, and they have been very valuable in life to me. Things I can pass on to my own kids. We will miss Eugene and pray for the family as I know this is a trying time right now for you. But cherish the memories and rely on God for your strength. He may be gone, but will live on forever in your heart.

Joni, I've thought of Gene and prayed for him. I know he will be missed very much by all that knew him. Gene was so fun to work with. I will miss his salesman jokes. His humor was like none other I've ever known. I was blessed to have known and worked with him these last 13 yrs. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.

Big Brother, You will be forever missed and always loved. I think of all the summers that I spent with you and Joni and all the fun I had. You and Joni were always good to me and I always felt at home while I was with you. I guess your house was my true home away from home while growing up. You guys were not only my big brother and my sister(Joni was always and still is more of a sister than an in-law), but my friends. I cry because I'm sad that you had to go, but I know that you are in a much better place and will never feel the pain we have here on this earth. I know that whatever life brings for me, you and Kevin will hold my hand and guide me through just like you did when the doctor made you hold me down to get stitches. I know that hurt you just as much, maybe even more than it did me but you did it becaue that is what was best for me. I love you Gene, with all my heart. Rest in peace.

Gene was the "go to" person for anything that we needed at Noranda Alum. We meet in business and quickly became friends. Gene was the type of person that made the world better, because anytime I talked to Gene about anything I always felt better. He never let me down and always found the hard to find parts. Shipping Utilities and ALL of Gene's customers will miss him greatly, but he did a wonderful job preparing Thomas Horn so everything can proceed the Gene would want it to. THANK YOU GENE. We will miss you.

Gene and Joni found us and taught us all about our long-lost family in Missouri. We spent many evening together when they would come to visit just doing genealogy, playing cards, and sharing stories. We were so glad to have them share our children's special events--Ashley's volleyball game and graduation, the Forest Festival, Rachel's wedding--whether they were actually here or whether we were sending pictures and videos. They are a part of our family and always will be. Gene was quiet, but you knew from the twinkle in his eyes that he was up to something. We will miss him at every family reunion, but we will always have our memories, pictures, and stories of the cousin who tracked down his family in the mountains.

Looking back, it was an amazing stroke of good fortune that we even had the privilege of meeting you. There wan an early knock at the door, and Frank Skavenski introduced you to us, a distant cousin who had come back to the area to trace his roots. The attraction was immediate, we spent much time sharing our heritages. Later meetings brought family reunions, paintball games, cemetary cleanups, all things to be shared by friends and family. The smiles, the laughter and fun will never be forgotten. Gene, I didn't get to know you well enough...all my fault. That is my regret. Tom

Joni, I remember you, your mother and your dear grandparents, Charlie and Grace Brown from the Church of God in De Soto. I am so sorry for your loss. I also lost my husband in his early 50's and I will not tell you it is a easy road to travel. You just have to thank God he is in a better place and realize one day you will be together again. Joni, We are so sorry for your loss. Gene was a kind and generous man. The cousins in WV enjoyed your visits so much. Gene was fearless at paintball and cards. He and Sonny were similar when it came to card playing. It must be a family thing. We will never forget Gene's snake stories. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Please take care of yourself. Met Gene & wife, Joni at Harmon Family Reunion & they gave me a great copy of the Campbell-Harmon genealogy that they had produced. I appreciated that gesture so very much. They seemed to be a great couple & I know all who knew Gene will miss him terribly.

Joni, Rosie and I are so sorry for your loss. When Linda told me about Gene's illness, I insisted that my fiance go see his doctor about his sleep problems and the large amount of weight he had put on in just a few months. His doctor is now treating him for severe sleep apnea. He is already doing better. If Linda hadn't told me about Gene, who knows how long he would have put it off. Rose still has the geneology book you guys made for her, and we treasure it. I'll be thinking of you and praying for you. Take care, Sarah and Rose.

It will be the little things that you will remember, the quiet moments, the smiles, the laughter. And although it may seem hard right now, it will be the memories of these little things that help push away the pain and bring back the smiles. Praying for friends to comfort you, faith to uphold you, and loving memories to help you smile again. With Deepest Sympathy

A friendship that started 10 years ago on AOL will never be forgotten. Gene was one to have a wonderful sense of humor, he was caring and he was truely a family man. He shared so much with us about his family, his vacations, his reunions and the holidays. We never had the opportunity to meet him personally but we felt as if we knew him longer than 10 years. I know we will finally meet one day in a much better place. Joni, always keep his memories close to your heart and he will be with you forever. Forever in our hearts. Love, Jojo and Frank LaTorre
