Julia “Janie” Jeanette Harshaw-Lindsey (nee Courtois) was born on May 30, 1930, in Vineland, MO to Melvin John and Mary Alice Courtois, both deceased. She was married to Norman “Pete” Harshaw on December 21, 1946 and enjoyed nearly forty-years of marriage with him before his death on March 26, 1986. To this union, two children were born, Richard Harshaw of Phoenix, AZ and Barbara Coleman of O’Fallon, MO. In 1988, Janie was married to Wilfred Lindsey who predeceased her in death in July of 2019. They were married for thirty-one years. She leaves”bonus” children Sherry Lindsey of O’Fallon, MO, Dave Lindsey of De Soto, MO and Paula Lindsey, Festus, MO.

Janie had four granddaughters, Sara (Scott) Shimmin, Phoenix, AZ; Christi Coleman, Imperial, MO; Carrie (Christopher) Thomson, O’Fallon, MO and Julia Eaton, Kansas City, MO. She also leaves six step-grandchildren.

Great grandchildren surviving include Connor and Colin (Christi) Flaherty of Imperial, MO; Dylan and Ryan (Carrie) Thomson, O’Fallon, MO; Luke and Noelle (Sara) Shimmin, Phoenix, AZ; and Alexis (Julia) Eaton, Kansas City, MO. She also leaves six step- great grandchildren.

Janie’s parents and grandparents predeceased her in death, as well as her parents-in-law. She was predeceased in death by her loving sister, Gloria  Wilkinson, and brothers Melvin John “Bob”  Courtois, Jr. and David Elmer Smith. She leaves two surviving sisters Glenda (David) Maupin and Sally (the late Roy) Swaringim both of De Soto, MO; and sister in law Pat Courtois, De Soto and brother in law Al Wilkinson, De Soto.

Janie loved children and the elderly and always supported them both in charitable ways throughout the years. Her final home was the Baptist Home in Ironton, MO, where she left on December 29, 2020 to be with her Lord and Savior. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials be given to the Baptist Home, P.O. Box 87, Ironton, MO 63650. The family will receive visitors at Grace River Church, 1913 Trade Center Drive, St. Peters, MO 63376 on Saturday, January 30, 2020 at 10:30 AM. A Celebration of Life will follow immediately at 11 AM. Guests must mask (will be provided) and practice social distancing.
