John Benjamin Wood was born on March 16, 1948 in Paragould, AR one of the thirteen children of Hilrie and Savilla (nee Edger) Wood. He died at his Victoria home on June 13, 2022 at the age of 74. On August 12, 1967 John married Nancy (nee Nicholson) Wood at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in De Soto. He is survived by his wife Nancy along with their two children: Sean Wood of Kansas City, MO and Lori Wood of Victoria. He was the proud Paw Paw of: Madison Wood, McKinley Wood and Zoe Wood. John is also survived by four sisters: Barb Mayo, De Soto, Faye Lawson, Lansing MI, Carolyn Price, Jonesboro, AR and Margie Bodell, Charlotte, MI. He is preceded in death by his parents; four sisters: Mildred Waugh, Marie Crocker, Helen Bryant and Betty Roundtree and four brothers: Frank Wood, Travis Wood, Gerald Wood and David Wood. John had retired as the Fire Chief for the City of De Soto and also as a Deputy for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. He enjoyed being with his family, classic cars, especially 57 Chevys, feeding and watching the birds and other animals, being outdoors, watching old westerns and “Cops” on television and spending time with his constant companion, his dog Oshie.
