John, Shelley and Christina, my deepest sympathy for the loss of Herb. He was a wonderful man and we are all better for knowing him. Betty was my mother's cousin (Electa), but he always seemed more like an uncle than a second cousin. We had some great times with him getting White Castle hamburgers, they lived in Texas at that time and would drive here in an old blue Dodge Rambler station wagon. The closest White Castle restaurant was on Hampton in St. Louis. We would all pile in the car and go with him for the burgers and he would order 10 dozen hamburgers to go so he could take some back home! What a generous and kind man he was, and I am so very sorry that I had not had a chance to see him and speak with him lately. My thoughts and prayers are with you and all of your family.

Uncle Herb was a much-loved "uncle" to so many, including us! Although humble and quiet, he always offered a quick smile or hug - and was always a joy to be around. Some fondest memories will be of him baking & bringing cakes to share - and getting together during the holidays. Herb deserved the very best life had to offer. We will miss him very much - he will remain forever loved and in our hearts!! Barbara & Bob Breeden and Clayton DeKay

Herb was an employee for DeSoto Fuels in his later years starting out working at a retail location at Jefferson Square and later doing the maintanence at our car wash facilities. This man was a joy to be around, always cheerful and always ready to learn anything to help him do his job. No one ever called me about a carwash problem, they went straight to Herb. I am truly sorry I didn't get to see Herb in his final days on earth but I am sure God has a place for this wonderful man, perhaps even a carwash for him to work on. Terry Propst DeSoto Fuels Inc.

This wonderful man was a true gift to our family. Not only when we needed his help but as a friend , our Uncle , and our family's guardian . He and his wife Betty were so much fun to be with , with thier stories and suport, with out judgement of kind. Always there to lend a hand to all. We will miss him greatly and keep him in our hearts forever. I wish my words could do him justice . We love you Uncle Herb.
