Helen Gladys Whitter was born in Leadington on May 13, 1922, a daughter to Duard Carlus and Lula (nee Hasley) Brooks. She died on June 17, 2021 at the Villa’s Nursing Center in De Soto at the age of 99.
She is survived by her daughters, Gloria Boyts of De Soto; Pat Dennis of Farmington; and Nancy (Bill) Meyers of Bentonville, AR; son-in-law, Thomas Haley of Festus; her grandchildren: Sherri, Missy, Danette, Pam, Karen, Andrea, Lisa, Scott, Billy, Lauren, Sarah, Michaelle, and Dawn, and great-grandchildren: Lindsay, Kelsey, Kaylee, Matthew, Emily, Kali, Koy, Cami, Delaney, Wyatt, Cortnie, Cassitie, Will, Charlotte, Logan, and Ethan.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Marvin J. Whitter; her daughter, Merlyn Haley; her son, Carlus Whitter and an infant daughter, Delores Jean Whitter; sons-in-law, Albert “Bud” Boyts and Bobby Dennis; two brothers: Floyd Brooks and Frank Brooks and five sisters: Bernice Dunn, Lola Graves, Juanita Scott, Mable Hamlett, and Mary Joan LaChance.
