I only met Harold, or "Uncle Hal", a few times. One fond memory was when I drove with my dear friends, Chris and Ken Kendl, to St. Louis in early January in the mid-80's. We were bringing Chris back to school and as Ken and I had a few extra days before our respective returns to our studies, we decided we would all visit "Uncle Hal and Aunt Mary". I was overwhelmed by how welcome Hal and his entire family made me feel. But then, I should not be surprised, the Kendl family was always just as generous. I recall enjoying dinners, bowling and even church with Hal and his family. They enlightened me on different perspectives at a crucial time in my life. And for these wonderful memories, I will be forever grateful. I often turn to music during joyous and sad times. I feel these lyrics by Bono best sum my views: "I'll see you again When the stars fall from the sky And the moon has turned red Over One Tree Hill And when it's raining Raining hard That's when the rain will Break my heart." I offer my deepest condolences to the Breihan and Kendl families during this time. I wish you all the best.

I want to share my thoughts on the loss of my Uncle Hal. I am most thankful for the 30 extra years that the Lord gave to Hal after his first battle with a serious health problem. I believe that his work on Earth was not yet done and through this adversity he received the Holy Spirit and shared that gift with the rest of us. He made the best of the remaining years as a devoted father and husband. He along with Aunt Mary raised a wonderful family that I will always love. I will always appreciate the old days when we visited and even the more recent much too infrequent visits in which he welcomed me and my family. I enjoyed his stories of how he found humor in our daily lives and struggles, sort of modern parables in a sense. I believed the Holy Spirit was speaking through Hal to all of us when he offered thanks before a beautiful meal. Uncle Hal, Mary, Mary Beth, Fran, Yvette, Angie, Diane, the grandchildren and great grandchildren will be in my thoughts and prayers. I hope to see the family in the very near future to pay my respects in person. He is in a place when there is no pain and suffering with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Everlasting be his memory, Ken, Athanasia, Alex, Robert and Julia Kendl

GOD SAW YOU GETTING TIRED: GOD SAW YOU GETTING TIRED AND A CURE WAS NOT MEANT TO BE, HE PUT HIS ARMS AROUND YOU AND HE WHISPERED "COME TO ME" WITH TEARFUL EYES WE WATCHED YOU FADE AWAY. ALTHOUGH WE LOVED YOU DEARLY WE COULD NOT MAKE YOU STAY. A KIND HEART STOPPED BEATING,HARD WORKING HANDS TO REST. GOD BROKE OUR HEARTS TO PROVE TO US, HE CHOSE TO TAKE THE BEST. IT WILL BE LONSOME HERE WITHOUT YOU, WE WILL MISS YOU EACHDAY. LIFE WON'T SEEM THE SAME NOW THAT YOU HAVE GONE AWAY. WHEN DAYS ARE SAD AND LONELY AND EVERYTHING GOES WRONG, WE WILL HEAR YOU WHISPER, "CHEER UP AND CARRY ON." EACH TIME WE SEE YOUR PICTURE YOU SEEM TO SMILE AND SAY, DON'T CRY "I'M IN GODS HANDS WE'LL MEET AGAIN SOMEDAY." DON'T CRY FOR ME OUR TIME TOGETHER WILL ALWAYS BE!!!!!!!!!!!- ANONYMOUS- WE'LL MISS THIS SWEET, QUIET, LOVING,RELIGIOUS SOUL

I only got to meet Uncle Harold one time. He and Aunt Mary came to our home for a visit7 yrs ago. He made a big impression on me. Just from this short, wonderful visit I could tell what an amazing man, husband, father, brother, and uncle he was to all who he loved. He will truly be missed and I am so happy that I had the chance to meet him. My thoughts and prayers to Aunt Mary and all of their kids and grand kids.

A Marine Died Today by: A. Lawrence Vaincourt He was getting old and paunchy and his hair was falling fast, And he sat with his friends and family telling stories of the past. But we'll hear his tales no longer for he has passed away, And the world's a little poorer, for a Marine died today. He will be mourned by his whole family, not just his children and his wife But really he lived an ordinary and quite uneventful life. Held a job and raised a family, quietly going his own way, And the world won't note his passing, though a Marine died today. When politicians leave this earth, their bodies lie in state, While thousands note their passing and proclaim that they were great. Papers tell their whole life stories, from the time that they were young, But the passing of a Marine goes unnoticed and unsung. Is the greatest contribution to the welfare of our land A guy who breaks his promises and cons his fellow man? Or the ordinary fellow who, in times of strife, Goes off to serve his Country and offers up his life? A politician's stipend and the style in which he lives Are sometimes disproportionate to the service that he gives. While the ordinary Marine, who offered up his all, Is paid off with a medal, or often nothing at all. It's so easy to forget for it was so long ago, That it was men like this who served, and this we now know It was not the politicians, with their compromise and ploys, Who won for us the freedom that our Country now enjoys. Should you find yourself in danger, with your enemies at hand, Would you want a politician with his ever-shifting stand? Or would you prefer a Marine, who has sworn to defend His home, his kin and Country and would fight until the end? He was just a common Marine and his ranks are growing thin, But his presence should remind us we may need his like again. For when countries are in conflict, then we find the Marine's part Is to clean up all the troubles that the politicians start. If we cannot do him honor while he's here to hear the praise, Then at least let's give him homage at the ending of his days. Perhaps just a simple headline in a paper that would say: Our Country is in Mourning, for a Marine Died Today.

Uncle Hal was a sweet man. Always had a kind word. We always looked forward to his Christmas cards and letters. I remember when I was about 9 we went back to Missourito see them and Uncle Hal, My Dad and Uncle John taught us how to catch fire flies in jars to make lamps. Then we had to let them go but it was fun. You wont be forgotten, even though you may not have known it and we didn't get to see you much You were always a big part of our lives. You will forever be in My Heart. I Love You Uncle Hal. Love to All, Rosi & Dave Watson, Louie and Karel Kendl, Matthew, Rebekah, Adam, Riza, Kira and Hana Giard
