Coach was a fantastic person. He taught me and so many others a lot about life, basketball and driving. He will be missed in our community. My thoughts and prayers are with his entire family and all who have the same fond memories. May peace be with you.

There are many fond memories I have from Coach Steighorst. I am not sure if all of them were fond for him? He was a great role model and definately a person we all looked up to. His enthusiasm for basketball and teaching us the simple things in life will not be forgotten. He will truly be missed by anyone that had a relationship with him over the years. Thanks for all the good memories and fun in the gym. My thoughts are with you Marilyn, Doug, Kay and Mark.

Gene's passing is a great loss to all of Jefferson County. He was a great coach and one of the best men I've ever known. I still often wonder how he managed to stay so sane and calm while teaching all of us young fools how to drive. My thoughts are with all of your family.

My sympathy to the Steighorst family. I attended Hillsboro schools and remember the excitement that Coach brought to the area with so many talented teams. Especially when Mark & Doug played. Coach was also my drivers ed instructor & I must admit to being partially responsible for some of his hair loss. I'll miss Coach!

Dear Aunt Lela, I read of your lose in the online issue of the Quincy HEarld Whig, and wanted to express my deepest sympathies to you and your family. Even though we have not been close for many years, I still remember a time when I would come out with grandma and we were close. I hope your memories of your son, and all the wonderful tributes he is receiving helpl through this hard time. LOve, Marsha Crouch Russell (Elizabeth Crouch's granddaughter just in case you forgot).
