Gene was my friend--for over sixty years we shared a love of others, a lot of laughter (and probably a few tears) . With Gene there was always a loving concern for others. I have seen him put his arm across the shoulder of a student who needed attention, give him a good firm hug and make him know that everything was good in this life. There were times when he looked them in the eye and said "We need to get on with the good life." Gene is with the Heavenly Father he served so well. Goodbye my friend, I shall miss you. Don't forget the story about David Blank in sophomore English--We had a good time My love to all of you Mary Alice Weber

Gene was a great principal at Vineland, never too busy to listen and help when needed. I will always remember laughing at the stories he would tell of his mom and dad growing up. His children and grandchildren have much to be proud of. He made the world a better place. nancy dunlap

Gene was my teacher and bus driver when I came to Desoto and Saint Rose as a child in 1973. He was also my children's teacher at Vineland. No matter how many years passed between our chance meetings, he always remembered me, spoke to me as if time stood still, and always asked about my children. My favorite memory? Bus rides!

I had the privilege and the honor to work beside this great man at Wal-Mart. He had a great sense of humor and was always willing to help. It was a joy to work with him. I wish to express my deepest sympathy to the family. It is truly a great loss to the family as well as the world for such a person as Gene is rare. May the angels take you into paradise. I would like to share a story about my daddy to show his love for his students in school with him; One day while I was @ work (Walmart) he called me & asked me to pick up a child's winter coat. I asked him what he needed with a coat he said in his stern voice that we all have heard "Victoria just bring me home a coat & I will explain later". So I did as my dad asked. That night he informed me that a student of his had been coming to school everyday without a winter coat & he wanted to make sure he had one. Through out my life my dad taught me to work hard, never give up & treat others as I would want to be treated. Did I always listen to him.... No but I as I look back I have as an adult. Thanks daddy for all that you taught me. I will make you proud.

Gene was a great man and loved his job. He was the pprinciple at Vineland while all three of my kids attended there. I ran into Gene oneday while he was working at Wal-Mart and he told me that he loved seeing all the kids from school. That it was like having all of these extra grand kids. He was never to busy to stop and give a hug or shake a parents hand. Onething is for sure Gene touched many lives here in Desoto and will be truly missed. May Gos grace be with your family in this time of need. He will forever be in the hearts of our family. May he rest in peace.

I worked with Gene at 2almart in Dtown about 25 years ago.... It was his summer job. I remember when a little kid got caught shop lifting they would ask Gene to have a word with the youngster..... He would scare 'em straight. He was a good man! This town of ours was so much richer having him in it.
