Dennis R. Whitby was born April 1, 1948 in St. Louis, MO. He died March 17, 2010 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis at the age of 61. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Sandra (nee Gillam) Whitby; his children Danny (Donna) Whitby, Julie Whitby, Lisa (Clayton) Hastings, and Tina (Mark) Sikes; 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister Frances (Joe) Detter; and a son in law Dion Tweedy. He is preceded in death by his parents Ralph Whitby and Laura Louise (nee Scrivner) Whitby Douglas, a daughter Sheila Tweedy and a brother Frank Votruba. Mr. Whitby was a veteran of the Vietnam War, served as an officer for the De Soto Police Department, and as a detective for the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department. After retiring from law enforcement he drove a bus for the De Soto Public School District.
