As only those who have served in the Military may understand, even though we were never in the same unit, Denny Helms and his family were and are to me Air National Guard family.I have known him since the early 1980's and can honestly say that I have never heard one single bad thing said about Dennis Helms. He was a very exemplary individual who was well liked and respected. He touched a lot of people and will be dearly missed by all. Our condolences to Norma and the extended family. May you all find peace in your memories. Charlie and Linda Lash Savannah, GA

Denny was my supervisor for the last nine years I was in the Missouri Air National Guard. I went on quite a few trips with him for annual training and other deployments. Denny was a great guy who was always highly motivated and positive. He alway made sure that the people who worked for him were well treated and well taken care of on our trips. When I retired from the ANG in November, 1994, Denny planned a really nice retirement ceremony for me and my family that I will never forget. Regrettably, I have not seen Denny much since I left the ANG in 1994, but he kept in touch with all of us "old timers" via email. The last time I saw Denny was at Tad Pierson's retirement ceremony from the Air Force Reserve and he still seemed like the same great guy I always knew. He will be greatly missed by all of us who served with him in the 157th. Some others that worked for him and served with him that will greatly miss him are Ed Myers, Tad Pierson, Ken Allen, Leonard Canovi and Marv Pfeiffer. John Cochrane, SMSgt Retired

Dennis was a fine man and a friend to all who knew him. I never saw him lose his cool or talk negatively about anyone. A good example for us all and I will miss him dearly. Thoughts and prayers to Norma and family.

I joined the Air National Guard in 1988, and from the day I came back from Tech School, I had the honor of working with Denny almost every day. He was not really my supervisor in any way, but if I had a question my immediate supervisors couldn't answer I went to Denny. Sometimes he was working on another project with more importence and asked me to come back; but when I did he help me to understand what I was asking and how to get a complete answer and where to find the answer. There are not many people around anymore that have the caring and helping attitude Dennis had. I can picture the Angels of God escorting Dennis to heaven. God Bless you Dennis and your family.

Norma we are so sorry to hear about Dennis. We just heard this past week that he was not doing well and now he is gone. His spot in the church pew will certainly be empty. You are in our prayers. If we can do anything for you please do not hesitate to call us. Your friends at Immanuel Lutheran Church, John & Janet Miller

I had the fortune of working closely with Denny ("Chief") at Jefferson Barracks in the late 90s and early 00s. I always had great respect for him and his work ethic. He was a good man and a true patriot.

Grew up with Dennis in the Lutheran Church and some of my greatest memories are working alongside him on class reunions - such a great help!
