Calvin Eugene “Gene” Baker was born in Richwoods, MO January 24, 1925 a son of John T. and Ethel (DeClue) Baker. He died on January 16, 2012 at Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, MO at the age of 86 years. He is survived by his wife Josephine “Jo Ann” (nee Brown) Baker; four sons, Dean (Mary) Baker, Festus, MO, Hart (Lillian) Vernon, Imperial, MO, Keith (Nancy) Vernon, Imperial, MO and Stephan Baker, Hillsboro, MO; three daughters, Linda (Clayton) Henry, De Soto, MO, Ann (Brian Werner) Baker, De Soto, MO, and Debbie (Michael) Sparks, De Soto, MO.; twenty two grandchildren, Charidy (Lynn) Rapien, Hart Vernon II, Ginny (Robbie) Wills, Patrick (Tara) Henry, Nicholas Henry, Zachary Vernon, Geoffrey (Ashley) Baker, Bryant Baker, Justin (Cassie) Carrow, Austin Curtis, Lexi Baker, Kenzi Baker, Julie (Joe) Knittig, Jodie Stephen, Derek Stephen, Matt (Sara) Nivens, Marc (Nicole) Nivens, Christopher (Julia) McIntyre, Lisa Glasscock, Crystal Sparks, Michelle Sparks, and Matt Sparks; twenty six great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Gary Baker and Timothy Sampson; one daughter Karen McIntyre; one brother, Edward Baker and one sister, Margaret Wilkerson. He served in U.S. Navy during WWII; retired from Missouri Pacific Railroad in 1985; member of the New Apostolic Church, De Soto, MO; member of V.F.W. Post #1831, and Missouri Amphibious Navy Group. He enjoyed playing and listening to music. As an expression of sympathy memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
