When I was quite young my mother and father moved to Clement street where my grandmother Pierce lived. The Finchers built across the street from us - - we were always so very fond of Bill and Loraine - they made us feel so welcome. Later after I had grown and moved my mother Musetta Grovero had fallen and broken her ankle - the first people there were Bill and Loraine. She didn't have to worry about groceries - Bill would always bring them up to her and make sure she had gotten to the doctors and had what she needed when she was on crutches. Bill was simply a good kind person. Loraine I know you, Carol, Burt and Kay will miss him terribly - the world has lost someone truly good but heaven has gained a wonderful angel. Burt, sorry for your loss. David says his first job was at Bay's market where he learned to juggle oranges from your dad. May God be with you and your family. Peace, Sandie and David Hahn

I got to know the Bay family in the 1930's. I traded with them because of their courtesy and quality of products. I graduated with Halene in 1940. What wonderful people and friends. Wish the world had more like them. I share their loss today. Blqine & Betty Olson

My Uncle was as much a father to me as my dad Harlan was. He was always so supportive of anything that I was able to do or accomplish. Always was so happy to see me when we could sit and talk for a while. I will truly miss him. But I have so many wonderful memories. If any one wants to know about Bill Bay just ask me. I have many many memories. Larry Bay

Working at Bays was the best time of my life, we were all friends and family and still are, being shot with beans out of a weapon Bill had made kept you on your toes, would not have that time in my life any other way. There will never be another market with the atmosphere and good meat as Bay's Market.

I remember Mr. Bay from when I would come to DeSoto and visit my grandparents, Ralph and Becky (Nana) Wills growing up. It seemed like he and Spud Brinkman at Kroger's were the two happiest, friendliest men in DeSoto, to me, and I thought back then that there must be something about running a grocery store that just made men cheerful. Fast forward to 1969 when Mom (Linda Butcher) remarried, and we lived 2 houses from the Bay's with HC, Mike and Jeff Fincher, and Mr. Bay was just as friendly as a neighbor, even to a new, unknown 11 year old kid and his little brother. What a guy! Always had a smile, and it was no different with Mrs. Bay. Even Kay and Bert, though older than us, were nice. This was a big deal for someone who had no friends in a new hometown where every thing was different. The world was definitely a better place because the Bay's treated us like friends instead of strange kids lost in a new world. May God bless all of the Bay family in this time of loss. I'm certain that he will find no strangers where he has gone. And he'll be waiting for us all, with a smile, when we get there, too.

Yes, fond memories of Bays Market and the whole family. My folks worked for Spross Bakery in the same block. When my sister Jo Ann was born at home I stayed the night at Bays home upstairs. I ran up and down Main Street and visited the market a lot. They were always friendly to me and never told me to go home.

The Bay family--an institution in De Soto. I worked for The Bays just before I went off to school--Bill and Harlan both gave me opportunity. My family traded with the Bays for years, I remember his mother sitting up at the counter at the old store and his father helping always. But, more than that, They were friends Bill was a good, loving, kind person who always had a smile for everyone. He loved his family, the community where he lived and worked, and most of all he loved his God. The world , my world especially, was so much better because all of the Bays were a part of it. Thanks for making my life better. Mary Alice

Bill was so kind to me, and my children, Jeff and Jill Bay. I remember his smile and laugh as if it were yesterday. He so loved all of his family. Amanda and Albert Bay had 4 wonderful children who gave so much joy to so many. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. The world lost a very wonderful man!

A very very good example of De Soto Missouri . All of the Bay family actually. Like who did not know Bays Market ? Your lunch was wrapped in brown paper and tied with a string. 1918 was a LONG time ago . Just think what this man saw compared to us 70 + yr. olds ?

Bill, Harlan, Mr. Bay and many more of the Bay's Market store were part of my earliest memories of De Soto. I went with my mother so many times to shop for groceries--they were really like family. No supermarkets today can come up with the smiles and kindness shown there. Peace to all Bill's loved ones.

I will always remember Uncle Bill's magic tricks down at the store and coming over to visit Grandpa (Harlan) every day after Grandpa retired. He was a wonderful, kind and generous man. I love him very much.
