Asleep in Jesus on August 18, 2017 at Scenic View Nursing and Rehab Center, Herculaneum, MO. Alvin was a lifelong Jefferson County Resident born to George W. and Helen (Kuene) Marschel in Kimmswick, MO on July 6, 1933. After completing his education at Heads Creek School, he helped his dad on the family farm until age 16 when he began working in the building trades with his uncle Albert Marschel. In 1953, he enlisted in the Army, serving as a Construction Foreman, Specialist 2, in Japan until 1956. On September 8, 1956, Alvin married his friend and childhood sweetheart, Arlene (nee Danneman) Marschel. They moved to Goldman, MO, October 1964 into the home that Alvin built. There they raised 4 children while Alvin continued to work as a journeyman carpenter and was a proud member of the Carpenter’s Local #2214. On December 30, 1971 he was commissioned to the position of Jefferson County Building Official, until his retirement in 1998. Under his leadership, codes covering all aspects of construction were improved, written, and implemented. Alvin also served as a volunteer for the Goldman Fire Department for 20 years, many of them as Chief. He was a proud member of Big River V.F.W. Post #5331 in Cedar Hill. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Otto, serving on various boards, working on building projects, caring for the cemetery, and designing and building many crosses that still hang in the church.
