Founded separately by J. Lee Mothershead and Donnell B. Dietrich in 1929 and 1930, the Mothershead and Dietrich Funeral Homes operated as friendly competitors a half a block from each other. D. Fred Dietrich merged the two firms on January 1, 1972. In 1974 the entire operation was moved to the Mothershead Funeral Home building and named Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home. In 1987 Jacob Dietrich, a licensed funeral director and embalmer came to work for the firm, representing the third generation of the Dietrich family affiliated with the funeral home.

Beginning in 1989 and completed in1991 the Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home building was completely remodeled, tastefully decorated using many of the antique pieces of furniture collected by the Mothershead family. During this remodeling a spacious new chapel was added to the funeral home. The remodeling also ensured that the funeral home was accessible to all. |
In 1993 the Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home purchased the Woodlawn Cemetery, De Soto, MO.
